The Beginning ( آغاز )

Here,
was the Earth,
alone,
utterly alone,
overflowing with silence,
without man and without tree.

No night and no day,
no song of a bird to be heard,
no children’s cries,
not even the smallest image
of moments passing by.

Here,
was the Earth,
alone.
And suddenly,
the unwanted presence of man,
as penance for a glance,
born of knowing and desiring.

The first gaze,
the first sin,
saturated with the beguiling scent
of the first apple,
held in the hands of an innocent companion.
An unhesitating haste,
seeking a leaf perhaps,
to veil the alluring nakedness.

Here,
was the Earth,
and the primordial sin,
so profound,
that the Earth
turned,
time
began,
trees
rose high,
streams
flowed,
seeds of wheat
sprouted
in the moist embrace of soil,
and apple blossoms
bloomed
on every branch.

And thus it was,
that birds learned,
wildflowers learned,
and even the beasts learned,
that the solitude of the Earth
could only end
with an unwanted presence.
