A Spring Interpretation of Winter

 

This year,
I will borrow
from the white soul of clouds—

that, without hesitation,
offer themselves
to the thirsty body of the earth.

This year,
from pregnant roots,
I will draw out
a flowering—

one that has turned
the dream of winter
into color
across the garden.

This year,
with the fervent heart
of a young sapling,
I will begin—

a sapling
that fell silent
in the bitterness of the ending year,
only to return
and settle again
into budding.

This year,
alongside all those wishes,
I will render it into being—

those wishes
that have quietly taken their place
upon the honest table
of Haft-Seen.

And the new year—
beyond all the years left behind—

will rise
and be set
upon the rooftop
of this living world.
